Accomplish Your Goals by Developing a Finisher Mindset

Does this sound familiar? “I have started on a ton of projects, but none of them are complete.” You get easily distracted by new ideas and stop what you are doing to explore the new ideas. Then another new idea comes along and you drop the current idea and move to the new one. This vicious cycle is so common that it even has a name, the shiny object syndrome.

Whether you suffer from the shiny object syndrome or simply lack the motivation or commitment to meet your goal the first step to overcoming it is your mindset. When you’re in the right frame of mindset, it makes reaching your goals easier. So, if you want to start seeing results, you must establish the right mindset.

The Key To Accomplishing Your Goals: Learn to Finish What You Start

It is really that simple. The best way that you will accomplish your goals is to become the type of person that finishes what you start. Of course, this is easier said than done. It is easy to start something, but when the fun factor is gone and things start to get tough it is not easy to keep going. This is especially the case when it involves projects that you started on your own, which seems like there are no consequences for not finishing. But, that is not the case. There is a consequence and that is you wasted all your time. If you start a project and made it to 90%, you will not get benefits from it until you reach 100%.

The Finisher Mindset

Developing a finisher mindset will help you reach your goals. But how exactly do you define a finisher mindset? To put it simply, a finisher mindset is a mindset where you finish what you start. That is once you begin something you don’t stop until you reach the goal. Once you adapt to following through you will discover amazing results.

Becoming a Finisher

So, maybe now you want to become a finisher but have no idea how to go about it. Here is some advice to help you become a finisher.

Evaluate Your Ideas

Some of the ideas you’ll get are grand to the point where they are just a dream. The chance of you following it through will be slim. So, why do we still start them in the first place? It is because we don’t take the time to think about how it will realistically end. When you slow down and really think about each idea that pops into your head, you can eliminate starting on many of them.

Be Honest with Yourself by Asking Some Important Questions

Before you start on a project, you should envision how it will end. To help you think of how the end might be like ask yourself the following questions.

  • How long will the project take to complete?
  • How often do you plan or expect to work on the project?
  • Am I willing to sacrifice the time to work on the project?
  • Will I be able to commit to working on the project even if I get bored of it?

By honestly answering these questions, you should have a good idea of whether you should start a project or not.
